30 days/day4/slices of life--living in the moment

In "Living Simply" by Joanne Heim , she writes: "I want to live in the moment, to notice whatever God has for me at this very point in time, to discover and appreciate the joy in the task at hand. I want to open my eyes 'wide in wonder and belief' (Matthew 6:22, The Message), to take childlike pleasure in the moment. I want to follow Jesus' instructions in Matthew 6:34: 'Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow' (the Message)"

I like this idea--I read that this morning, and finished her book. I thought how wonderful it is to concentrate on enjoying each moment. As I looked out the window the first rays of Sunlight were scattering across the yard. I love those moments---of golden rays --just streaking and lighting here and there!

There is something so special about the rays of the morning sun!! So beautiful--kind of like how God lights up the world. So I concentrated on enjoying each task. Dishes, wash, exercise, cooking, eating, studying, writing, praying, listening and visiting. A great day.

Spent some time with the Greatgrandma too. Upon coming home I received this happy gift of pooh in the mail.

As Heim quotes in her book: "....each day can be lived unto itself, not lived for the yesterday that is gone or for the tomorrow that may not come, but lived for this present moment in the presence of God." I say AMEN.

  1. Oh Kim, there is nothing to forgive. I'm not mad at you and never was. I really thought you were letting me know I had done something wrong, which I appreciated. I feel so dumb about all this blogging business compared to most everyone else who has been at it a lot longer. When you told me to take a picture on Tuesday, I misunderstood what you were telling me I needed to do. I am sorry - it was all a mistake in the way I read your message. I haven't been visiting much lately, so I wasn't ignoring you. I'm going now and do my visiting. By the way, I love your pictures you posted today.

Anytime I do anything wrong, I would appreciate you or anyone else pointing it out to me. That is one way I can learn.

I'm glad you are praying for me. I need all the prayers I can get, lol. Thank you, Kim. I appreciate your friendship.

  2. Love the sunshine pictures! And I also love Pooh. Always have - well, since I discovered him when Kristen was little.

Thank you so much for the check - I'll get it to Sema soon. What a blessing!

I love the great grandma picture you took, too!

  3. I had never heard of this book, but it sounds great. I need to remember to live in the moment -- I tend to get into Martha mode and get into "getting things done."

I don't know if you've read Jim Elliot's biography, but one of his sayings was, "Wherever you are, be all there." It's a similar idea. He first said it to his future wife when they were on different mission fields -- he didn't want her pining away for him and missing out on what was going on where she was.

  4. Beautiful morning pictures. I buy the papers each Sunday for the coupons. It's what I do on Sunday's after church. Work on the coupons and watch the race ;) Have a good day!!

  5. What a beautiful post, Kim! Wonderful sunshine pictures, I was noticing the morning sunshine coming through my kitchen window yesterday.
I thought of you today when I was in Hancock Fabrics. Do you have one near you? They had quite a few really cute bird figurines and accessories!

  7. Kim,
I think the shopping takes some trial and error. If you don't have coupons, I guess you'd have to find out where you can get the lowest prices. That's why I head to CVS and Walgreens...the absolute lowest prices. For example, for years I bought $1.00 shampoo at Walmart...I have since found that I can get name brand shampoo free or for less that .50 a bottle. If you haven't tried CVS, with their extra care card and extra care bucks, you can save alot of money. Hope this helps. Oh, and coupons are also available on the internet these days.

  8. good point- happiness is so often found 'in the moment'. I so admire a friend who sees and appreciate things I overlook. She has a good eye, and I am trying to develop that, too. Thanks for visiting my blog last week!

  10. I just happened upon this post and wanted to say how much I loved the idea of living in the moment! I'm not always good at it as it is a busy season of life for me, but it is definitely something I aspire to. In many ways the busier we are the more we need to get a hold of that concept! I write a lot about that thought (on my blog and I write for Christian Women Online) and love finding others who appreciate that idea too! Thanks for the book recommendation, I am not sure that I have heard of it!

    Blessings,
    melissa
