the Last Time I Saw Paris

I had never seen the old movie called, The LAST TIME I SAW PARIS with Vann Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor, Donna Read, etc. I liked one quote in the movie:

"....a life time full of last days." It reminds me of part of an old prayer: "Order this day all my communications according to thy wisdom, and to the gain of mutual good. Forbid that I should not be profited or made profitable. May I speak each word as if my last word, and walk each step as my final one. If my life should end today, let this be my best day."

I think sometimes of cancer patients or others who have survived deadly illnesses--how it makes you appreciate all of the little things (as well as the big) in each day ---ie---to be able to see and feel the warm sunshine, to enjoy the little birds at the feeder, to taste a good cup of coffee, to see and talk to your loved ones, to feel the warmth of human touch, to hear the sound of people talking and praying, etc.

  3. nannykim,

Thank you for your comment on my blog.

    This truly just happened:

A few minutes after reading your post "the Last Time I Saw Paris" I went outdoors to get the mail. It is just too cold to walk to the mailbox, so I took the car. The trip lasted two minutes and on the radio was playing Tim McGraw's song "Live Like You Were Dying".

The first line I heard was....."I went three times that year I lost my dad." And the song goes on to say, "I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter and I gave forgiveness I'd been denying.....Someday I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying."

In a similar vein as your blog post today.

On the wall above my computer is a plaque which says "Look at everything as though you were seeing it for the first TIME or the last TIME.....then your TIME on earth will be filled with glory". Its printed on a clock's face.

  4. As usual, I enjoyed your post for today. I especially need to keep in mind the one about speaking each word as if it were my last word. How much better off the world would be if we all could and would make this a rule to live by.

  6. I've never experienced a serious illness myself, but I do very often try to think of life in terms of last days. I think the prayer is beautiful and is so important to keep in mind. Thank you for sharing it with us, as well as the movie quote. I haven't seen that one, but I think I'll have to. Thank you so much. I hope your week is going well.

  8. This reminds me of something an old pastor of mine used to say...."work like He's never coming back, live like He's coming back today!"
