Yup, I know--the title says hedges and this ain't no hedge, as they say! This is one of the things I see on my walks---Cyprus knees--so cool don't ya thing?! I took this on a gray day ;-)
I called the title of the post hedges because I have been reading in Job and in Job 1:9-10 it says, "Then Satan answered the LORD and said, 'Does Job fear God for no reason? Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face. 12 And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand. So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.'
I am just glad--that God does have hedges around us and that anything that comes into our lives is sifted through His hands. It only comes by his permission. This gives me peace in the midst of the trials! I thank him for Job because it lifts a little of the veil and shows me many different reasons for trials and at the same time the need to trust God even when we have no understanding of the WHY.
I also like the verses in Hosea where you can pray a hedge of thorns around someone to keep bad influences away from them. I don't know why you have a list about your funeral desires in your sidebar, but I can certainly understand it. I have given thought occasionally to what I would like to be read or sung at my funeral. I have jotted down a song or two even. I was thinking about this the other day and I needed to find a song by Third Day that I would like. It's not the "Cry out to Jesus" but an older one. I must go look for it.
ReplyDeleteFascinating photo! Living in Iowa means I know nothing about cypress trees, and did not know they had "knees"!
ReplyDeleteYour insights from Job about hedges are wonderful. Thank you!
Cypress knees! Something else new! You must have some lovely walks in your area. Thanks for the insights on Job too. Sometimes it takes years to comprehend why God allows certain trials - it takes time and develops trust.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

You said: "I am just glad--that God does have hedges around us and that anything that comes into our lives is sifted through His hands. It only comes by his permission. This gives me peace in the midst of the trials!" It is profound. It does not always feel as if it was sifted through His hands though... sigh!
ReplyDeleteI once also tried to come up with a list of what I would like to be read and sung at my funeral and ended up all teary - ha ha ha! so I just stopped thinking about it. I am glad you could manage to finish your list and put it on your blog. (I thought there was something wrong me but now I see I was not so abnormal!)
Thank God for His hedge of protection around us. I liked that reminder.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I've never seen cypress tress! I hope you are having a great week. Did you get the bird box? I'm guessing it was worth around $10.00.
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Love the picture...nature is amazing. I'm thankful for our hedges of protection....this is something I sometimes take for granted.
ReplyDeleteSweet pictures of your grand baby and what a great way to stay connected. Linda
I am challenged by what youve shared, about everything that comes into our lives as beleivers being sifted through Gods hands...I dont think i have really beleived that was true, Ive thought I was making choices along the way that were either right or wrong..which has led me to the current state of being stuck in indecision and fear that i may choose the wrong path in life, again. But if what you say is true-what comes to my life is sifted through gods hands, that releives the fear! I'll have to go think on that:)
ReplyDeleteyou shared,

So True! He is a sovereign God who controls all things.
Which brings to mind that God allows sufferings or trials to persist sometimes because we don't ask to have them removed or lessened. We have not because we ask not. So simple and yet so true. But if He doesn't remove them, as He didn't for Paul, then as you've mentioned, we "need to trust God even when we have no understanding of the WHY." Do we trust He loves us and has our best interest at heart always? I'd admit that I've allowed doubt to enter at times especially after years of asking for certain things. Oh no...hahaha...looks He's weaving long suffering into my spirit. I would have chosen the JOY fruit instead but oh well. Father always knows best.
Hope your day is blessed.
And again, I get caught up in talking about Jesus and forgot your photo. What are those thingies coming out of the ground? As you can tell, I know more about birds than trees but even that's limited.
ReplyDeletesparrow--they are cyprus knees--um they come from that cyprus tree in the picture, but I forget what their purpose is!!
