Show and Tell Friday

It is show and tell Friday at http://kellishouse.blogspot.com/ --- This is one of my favorite sayings and favorite little pictures: " Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds ot be"--
This is really true---I have met people in happy circumstances who are miserable and I have met people in horrible circumstances who have joy because of their attitudes (and when in really bad times--such as Christ on the cross--the attitude or view on this life as compared to eternity). I have also seen that if I control the way I think about something this directly effects my emotions---this is why I have been trying ;-) to cultivate thankfulness always. Even in the death of my Mom there were many things to be thankful for--that her suffering had ended, that she was experiencing fullness of joy, that she had received Christ and knew him personally in that last year of her life, that I had precious memories of her and my childhood, that I had had a good relationship with her etc. I have found even in my hardest times if I looked there were things to be thankful for----I also have learned from people that have a grumbling attitude--that no matter what beautiful things are in the life they can't enjoy their lives--they only let their minds dwell on what they don't have. I have learned a lot from people in prison--ie The Hiding Place---how thankfulness enables joy in the worst of circumstances.

  1. Such true words!!! I call it "Seeing the glass 1/2 full, instead of 1/2 empty." I also love "Making lemonaid out of lemons". I am so glad to be one of the 1/2 full people with you!!!

  4. Joy is a choice! I read a quote the other day that said "it can be well with my soul even when it is not well with my circumstances" and I so agree.

I love Mary Engelbright. Thanks for sharing.

  8. The lady headvases you saw on my Show and Tell Friday post are vases. They were sold mainly by florist shops in the 50s and 60s. They are being reproduced today. If you Google "lady headvases," you will find a wide assortment.

  10. Hi NannyKim :) Thank you for your words today. Finding joy is a precious gift from the Father, isn't it? It is also a discipline that we must work at - daily.

Saw that you are reading some MT (post below). My favorite quote is one of hers. "You can do no great things. Only small things with great love."

    Blessings! Q

  19. Sweet. And fairly true. I battle depression so I've sometimes gotten upset at people who hold this to be true, mostly because I wasn't choosing to be unhappy, it's what my body was doing to me. But with treatment I can say it is true otherwise. I do try to remain sensitive when it seems like someone is down and out even if things are looking good because humans are complex and it could be any number of other unseen issues. But I know with a good circle of friends, prayer, and the right attitude a lot can change too.

  20. Regarding your questions about the Tupperware toys...

Don't feel bad at all... since all these recalls I've been cautious about everything too!

Tupperware prides itself on quality control, so I would hope we won't have any of the problems that other toy makers have had.

Since I bought all the toys for my nephew and nieces, I just checked them. The rattle is made in China. The pop a lot toy is made in Mexico and I couldn't find the location for the toy dishes, but I'm guessing it's either Mexico or the States as the vast majority of Tupperware is made over here. I was surprised to see that the rattle was made in China. If I don't find it out I'll e-mail my manager. I think it's a valid question.

I think it's admirable that your daughter is so conscious about quality and content. It is one of the reasons that I sell Tupperware.

Also, if you're cake taker isn't working and used to I might be able to order a replacement for you. I'd need for you to send me the pieces that don't work for you, but I think that version is still current. It's the one I have too, but I've had mine for ages.

I know that sometimes the seal starts to wear out and then it doesn't seal properly anymore, or if something heavy has been against it in the cupboards it can start to warp. Also, if it's always been kind of stiff it may simply be the design. Some pieces are really tough at first but fit together better over time.

One trick you might try is to soak your seal in warm water for a few minutes before putting it on the base. This softens the plastic and makes it mold better. Often customers have no problem with their stubborn pieces after doing the soak every now and then.

  21. I absolutely agree with those words. Yes, I firmly believe we can decide to be happy if we set our minds to it!

I was glad to join you for this show and tell!

  23. I love that saying too! It is so true that our attitudes have so much to do with how we handle things. We choose to be joyful or we choose to be bummed. With Jesus there is joy in all circumstances when we realize that He is in control and has a plan for us. It is hard to do though sometimes!

  25. I love that saying! What a great reminder it serves every time you read it. I am glad you liked my kitty! He is quite adorable if I must say so. About finding stuff at the Goodwill- most of the time it is all junk too.(just like the Salvation Army). But I have learned to go to the Goodwill stores that are located in the 'richer' sections of town :)I still prefer a yard sale anyday!
