A first dinner in our downsized abode

Photobucket
Well, after all of the hurrying around, stomach bugs, and moving from cottage to condo during the holidays, we did get to have a family meal with the grandkids, kids, and great grandpa!

The super heroes arrived on the scene too!

Now we just await Corwin's birth in a week or two. It has been busy times.......very busy!! I am hoping for a breather during an ice/snow event tomorrow! We will see......

I love children and their thoughts and questions. Rhianwen asked why there were candles at the front of the church. The answer is pretty interesting. The two where the Lord's Supper is placed stand for the two natures of Christ. The five on either side placed further back stand for the 5 wounds of Christ--his scourging, crown of thorns, wounds in the hands, feet and side.

Alden asked what trespasses are since in their church they say debtors. It is cool how they listen and observe and watch at the youngest ages. I love this about kiddies!

  1. Looks like you are all cozy in your new home, and what fun to see you all having a meal together. YEA!

Kim, I grew up as a Presbyterian, and I used to choke on the "tresspasses" thing when I made the change. I would start to say "debtors" and sort of choke it back. LOL!

Hope you all are on the mend and enjoying more of the new year in your new home. It's exciting!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  3. I just saw your question re Marsala at Martha's and thought I'd stop over. I see you live in S.C.. When we lived in Charleston, I purchased it at In Good Taste -- where I taught cooking classes for a number of years. Now I find it in the grocery stores around here (Chicago and suburbs).

I never questioned nor knew there was any symbolic meaning re the church candles. I have wondered about the "trespasses" vs "debtors" use!!

    Best,
    Bonnie

  4. We owned a wine and spirit shop so Marsala was always available and because we're friend with the owner of another shop, if they don't have it (although lots of liquor stores carry at least a bottle or two), they will order it for me. I use it for cooking only and so at the use of a half a cup a time, it lasts a long long time.

If you're liquor store doesn't have it, ask if they can order it for you.

  15. Hi again! I forgot to mention that I love your drapes. I had thought about using a blue/white floral or toile to lighten things up thru the summer, but never tried it. You can click on "Cuban Style" and "Living room" for the living tour. Those crosses are actually only several years old and I think I got them in the garden section at Big Lots. My mother-in-law uses them a lot in her home in Puerto Rico, and I just love that style.
