Where is the canned pumpkin???
Do any of you out there in blog land have an absence of canned pumpkin in your stores? I have not been able to get any since January. I keep checking and there is none. I went again today and there is still NONE. (I called Libby's about 2 months ago to ask about this and they said they had a bad crop last year.) I will check some more stores later this week, but it is very frustrating and I don't want to do it from scratch with a real pumpkin!!
Let me know if you all are having the same problem!
PS. I finally found some in the next town....but MSNBC said all stores should have some soon and that the shortage is over.

eu53very nice devotional on your last post (o:
ReplyDeleteAs for pumpkin...I have not looked...but Kathy (she always comments over at my place) said she can't get any either. Oh dear. I bet frozen pies will be hard to get too.
I noticed it last year. I read a post about this yesterday and it seems that Illinois, where most pumpkin comes from evidently, lost all of their crop to flooding, I think. She actually bought two small pumpkins and made a pie from scratch. She said it was unbelievably easy.
ReplyDeleteLibby's told her there should be pumpkin this year, but I don't know when.
I read about the pumpkin shortage, but didn't realize it would filter down to canned pumpkin. I would check some smaller stores, the kind that don't move merchandise as fast. they may have some cans from last year still on the shelf.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 or 3 in my pantry, and my best friend has pumpkin she froze from last year's crop. Worst case, shoot me an email and I can ship you some :)
Our store shelves were out of them for a long time, but I just found some this week and stocked up. I thought ti odd that there were fresh pumpkins but no canned. I guess the fresh ones go out first. But I didn't want to deal with the mess of a fresh one, either!
ReplyDeleteOh, those babies are adorable!
ReplyDeleteI haven't looked for canned pumpkin, Kim. Will let you know.
I wanted to thank you for your prayers for my DH. He's so much better, and I'm off nursing duty. I am, however, still on break till I can make a dent in the massive amount of things that have piled up over the month he's been sick. This, too, shall pass. I hope to be blogging again soon.
XO,
Sheila :-)
Hmmm, I can't help with that. I have never looked, I don't think I ever bought one....Christine
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty scarce around here too! Hope to see some on the shelves in time for Thanksgiving!

Been missing your posts on your devotional site. Hope all is well with you. I can't find pumpkin poptarts anywhere!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize there was a shortage, but I'm stocked up on pumpkin, so of course, I wouldn't. I panicked one year when we ran out of cranberries. I decided never to get caught short again. What is it with fresh? It never seems to have the same consistency and I have trouble making pie with it. I should try to work out the kinks one of these days, but canned is so very convenient!

Well, that's good news...I'm glad to hear the shortage will end. I'm stocking up when it comes back. My Loverbrains LOVES pumpkin! My Mom said you can use mashed sweet potatoes in it's place though...and it's impossible to tell the difference. Hmmm....if it's cheaper I might go for it!
