This time of the year I love to take out Anne Morrow Lindbergh's , "Gift From The Sea" . It is a book I like to read over and over again. For example I like what she says here:

"Except for the child, woman's creation is so often invisible, especially today. We are working at an arrangement in form, of the myriad disparate details of housework, family routine, and social life. It is a kind of intricate game of cat's-cradle we manipulate on our fingers, with invisible threads. How can one point to this constant tangle of household chores, errands, and fragments of human relationships, as a creation? It is hard even to think of it as purposeful activity, so much of it is automatic. Woman herself begins to feel like a telephone exchange or a laundromat.

She then writes that we need times of solitude in our lives---

"But women need solitude in order to find again the true essence of themselves: that firm strand which will be the indispensable center of a whole web of human relationships........The problem is more how to still the soul in the midst of its activities. In fact, the problem is how to feed the soul."

I certainly need alone times.....times for reflection and renewal with God. Life is full when I do this.

I am linking this to : She has a linky for sharing something you have read this week.

  1. That is deep and powerful. It is hard to find that alone time but so necessary. Thanks for sharing!

  2. What a peaceful photo, so precious.

I know we can talk to God all throughout the day but its not until we get alone can we really see and hear him. Its so important to take time to listen.

    Great post.

  3. I've read that book. I remember thinking at the time that still waters ran deep. And I know I have to have my own alone time. Thank you for commenting on my blog how much you like your necklace. I appreciate it! I do enjoy making the pretty little things!

  4. Nannykim,
    Thanks for sharing this.

Of course I can only try to learn and surmise from observation what is spoken of here in regard to a woman's life, but I certainly concur and really like the last thought: "I certainly need alone times.....times for reflection and renewal with God. Life is full when I do this." How true. And how that tells on me, just how much I need to grow in that.

  5. Wow, so true, thank you for sharing a bit of your book with us. It really is so essential to spend quiet times with ourselves and our god! I'm so happy you enjoyed my ~ Girls Just Wanna Have Fun post! It really was wonderful designing this table to celebrate "PINK" and all things that remind me of romance! Thank you for visiting and leaving your sweet comment!

Thanks for comments on by blog. I am new at all of this. Rattlesnake beans are like green beans. Hope you have a great week.

  9. That time alone seems to be so fleeting, but we can capture just a bit of it when we take time each day to spend even a few minutes with the Lord in prayer and Bible reading, renewing our minds daily with His Word! Very good!

  10. Hmm... That sounds like a good book. I might have to read that.

    Thanks for visiting bekahcubed!

  11. I have that book on my TBR list. Those are both good quotes. I need a certain amount of alone time to keep sane. :-)

    Thanks for participating!
