Introducing Billy for Rednesday

Hi I am Billy. I am so soft--did you know that old monkeys get soft with age?? That is what is so special about adopting us old monkeys. Nannykim adopted me last week or maybe a week and a half ago......time flies when one is monkey-ing around!

Here I am waiting for the laudry to finish washing. I'm just sitting in the laudry room. Notice my ruby red lips and my balsom filled cardinal pillows from Mount Mitchell! When I sit here in the laundry room and I lean on these pillows the scent brings me back to the Mountains!


Well the whites are ready to hang! I know you have seen this RED laundry basket before, but have you seen it filled? With WHITES? This basket is sold in Walmart's 4th of July section. It would be great to haul stuff at the beach too--Nannykim is smiling about it!


I grant Nannykim mucho encouragement by hanging here. She likes hanging laundry before the sun hits the area--it makes her feel she has gotten ahead of the game.-- ALthough she likes the feel of the early morning sunshine too. It is soothing to hear the birds singing and the neighbors out trimming ......

Note:The brim of my hat does turn down to a normal baseball cap, but Nannykim was a bit lazy and didn't feel like taking another picture......save that for another day! I am just a cool dude! pink saturday-hula hoop video with nannykim

On Saturday it will be Pink Saturday at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/
. I thought I would do something crazy and special for the event! I happened to be at Big Lots and saw a HULA HOOP! I haven't done this except for may be once since the 50' or 60's. I figured this would be fun and it would be great exercise. So here is a 32 second video of my first attempts---wearing pink of course!!! (Ps. it is my 33 wedding anniversary on Friday June 18 so what better thing to do than to revert to childhood?????? See my post below for how we met!) After this video you will wonder why he married me!



Actually....he needed someone like me--someone to drive him crazy and to make him laugh. I do it without trying ;-)

After this video I just may move the furniture! Happy pink sat!

33 years of marriage

Well, this Friday, June 18, hubby (the guy on the right, et hem ,and not one of the monkeys) will have been married to the great Nannykim for 33 years!! Hard to believe.

We won't celebrate until the weekend, since he has a job commitment.

We met in church. He was engaged to someone else at the time!!! I was ready for marriage and I asked God to break down any barriers keeping me from the one that God wanted me to marry. (Honestly, I didn't realize what this would entail!). Shortly after that he broke off his engagement.

I had been dating one of his pals. After I broke off the relationship with his pal, his pal kept urging him to date me. Just to get his friend to stop bugging him, hubby decided to ask me on one date! He had laryngitis the evening he asked me about getting together with him for a date. He took me up to the balcony in this little old church and said he would like to take me out on the following weekend. I thought he was going to rebuke me for something because of the way he was whispering from the laryngitis! (We belonged to a serious type church!). I almost passed out when I realized he was asking me on a date.

It ended up being a very romantic one. He packed a picnic lunch and took me to an old historic village. We were the only ones there for some reason! We felt like we had gone back in time. We had a wonderful time of sharing in the beauty of the place.

We got married 6 months later. We were broke and the only reason we decided to get married that soon, was because we found a one room house we could afford to rent! It did have a closet bathroom. We had a fold out couch that took up the entire sitting area!

Our relationship has gone through trials, but I have never NOT felt romantic in our relationship! God has blessed us with love and the ability to work through rough times. Our relationship has grown and gotten better over the years, just like a glass of good wine ;-)!

Amish Grace-how do we forgive the Horrendous

It is based on the true story of the Amish who experienced the killing of their children at thier little one room school house and how they could forgive in such a way that was demonstrated at that time. Don't worry it does not show any of the killing. It really makes one think and reflect on how one can forgive and why we are to forgive. It goes into this subject of forgiveness.


I also just finished reading a true book about that dealt with this subject of forgiveness. This book was about the Rwandan Genocide and how this lady who went through the Rwandan Genocide (over a million killed) had spent over 90 days hidden in a bathroom with about 7 others. Her family all was killed except for a brother who was out of the country. In her book she tells how and why she has to forgive.

Both of these stories are good, and they were both such an amazing story about how to forgive something that is horrendous. It explains why we can forgive and about giving the justice to God, etc but I thought you might enjoy the movie. I like movies that make me think and this one on the Amish killings does. It is not the typical type of movie that you would just say , oh I want to see, because the subject is so difficult. But If you get the time it is well worth watching and reflecting on.

If you haven't seen this movie about Beatrix Potter do so!! It is heart warming! We got it from Netflix and it is so enjoyable. Perhaps you can get it from your library.

Solitude

This time of the year I love to take out Anne Morrow Lindbergh's , "Gift From The Sea" . It is a book I like to read over and over again. For example I like what she says here:

"Except for the child, woman's creation is so often invisible, especially today. We are working at an arrangement in form, of the myriad disparate details of housework, family routine, and social life. It is a kind of intricate game of cat's-cradle we manipulate on our fingers, with invisible threads. How can one point to this constant tangle of household chores, errands, and fragments of human relationships, as a creation? It is hard even to think of it as purposeful activity, so much of it is automatic. Woman herself begins to feel like a telephone exchange or a laundromat.

She then writes that we need times of solitude in our lives---

"But women need solitude in order to find again the true essence of themselves: that firm strand which will be the indispensable center of a whole web of human relationships........The problem is more how to still the soul in the midst of its activities. In fact, the problem is how to feed the soul."

I certainly need alone times.....times for reflection and renewal with God. Life is full when I do this.

Two true books worth reading

These two books, Left to Tell and Led by Faith are really worth the read. The first book is the true story of how Immaculee survived during the slaughter of 1 million people in Rwanda.

The second book, Led by Faith, tells what happens after this. Both are an encouragement in a walk of faith and the blessings and amazing ways God answers prayer. I read each book on the day I started it or by the next day. I couldn't put them down! My husband has also enjoyed the books. The first is a bit dismal, but is well worth the read and encouraging. The second is very uplifting.

Home from vacation and a great book!

Well, we arrived home and thankfully all of our flowers , herbs and veggies are still growing!! here is a glimpse of some of our flowers below! (along with Minkey and Zephir......I, Minkey, have sortof SORTOF taken over the blogs of Nannykim----for a bit ).

I just wanted to tell ya'll about a wonderful book that Nannykim finished reading here at home in her porch/laundry room!
It is a MUST for your summer reading list!! The title is very weird! The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society! By Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It is on the New York Times Bestseller list and Nannykim and her hubby love this book!!!!! It takes place on the Guernsey Island in the English Channel right after World War II. It is full of humor, romance, and history--very easy and fun read and eye opening!!!

Unfortunately the oldest of the authors above has died! This was her first book and it is soooo wonderful and moving and delightful. I just hope her niece will carry on. Her niece does children's books but she helped with this one.

So please try to get it for your summer reading or get it from your library!! Nannykim, is a bit under the weather---possible an allergic reaction to mold spore from where they were vacationing (the cottage was musty and had some kind of problem ;-) )

Ps. The book was a gift from Nannykim's daughter who also loved the book!
