Church

I love this quote found in one of the Mitford books ( In this Mountain, page 64)concerning Church architecture.

"Church architecture ....ought to be an earthly and temporal fulfillment of the Savior's own prophesy that though the voices of men be still, the rocks and stones themselves will cry out with the laud and praise and honor due unto the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Michel di Giovanni medieval builder and designer."

Praise God for those that have seen this. I love this aspect that our churches should reflect this!

  1. Hi Kim,

Nice quote you posted for today.

I was pleasantly surprised to see you had visited me today. Thank you. I have missed you, but I knew you were staying busy. I think we all stay a little busier in the summer months.

Hope you have a good Sunday.

  3. I agree. It is so sad to see the great cathedrals of Europe that are almost empty now. When they were built there must have been throngs of people there.

  4. I think this is true. One thing I find exciting is how it's possible for architecture to honor God in a multitude of ways. For instance, churches that have their seating more "in the round" help point out that all the members are part of the body of Christ, that not all authority resides with the minister. Another example is a Catholic church in our area that has a bank of two-story tall windows behind the altar looking onto a wooded area. That brings in the beauty of nature to help glorify God. I love the cathedrals of Europe, but I try to be open to different expression of glorifying God too. The one thing I really dislike is when churches deliberately build an unaesthetic, purely utilitarian gym-like sanctuary. I find those environments so sterile.

  5. I bought the first mitford to read but I have been way to busy. I hope to get to it soon. Thank-you for stopping by today. My friend has the same vine and it is on her roof now. She needs to trim it back. She live down the street from me so I hope I have just as good luck as she has.
    Have a wonderful day,
