ocracoke island adventure

Here are a couple of pictures from our vacation to the island. It was a 2 hour and 15 minute ferry ride (this is why my daughter who is due to have our grandson didn't come !!She is due next week on the tenth!). My hubby was talking on the phone with our oldest son for Father day wishes.

Unfortunately, since Blackbeard died off of Ocracoke , we suffered a vicious pirate attack.

We enjoyed a light filled house with lots of time for naps and reading!

There were many monkey adventures.

Interesting reading on some of the history of the area.

We had to get coffee mugs/ of course!!

The sunrise as we left at then end of the vacation on the ferry back was very nice.



Then on the mainland we saw this sign--which I had to take a picuture of!!

Some pictures of the beach are in an earlier post and some on my monkey blog. These are some of the prettiest beaches in the US---long and empty. Very relaxing. Thank the Lord for times of REST!!

Church

I love this quote found in one of the Mitford books ( In this Mountain, page 64)concerning Church architecture.

"Church architecture ....ought to be an earthly and temporal fulfillment of the Savior's own prophesy that though the voices of men be still, the rocks and stones themselves will cry out with the laud and praise and honor due unto the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Michel di Giovanni medieval builder and designer."

Praise God for those that have seen this. I love this aspect that our churches should reflect this!

Show and Tell Friday

It is show and tell Friday at Kelli's http://kellishouse.blogspot.com/ I wanted to share this antique crib at Ocracoke Island where we vacationed last week. I thought it was so cool. It had a screening type thing on the sides.

This was a quilt made by the Island women--it is being raffled and I forgot to put my name in!!

love, sadness and wonder

A sweet day--My father-in-law who had a stroke on May 17 has not seen his wife for 5 weeks. She is in another nursing home. Today was their first time to see each other. He did not get out of the car since it is very difficult to get him out and in a wheel chair. The stroke affected his left side.

It was so touching and moving to see them with each other. This is the longest they have been separated in the last 30 years and they have been married for almost 59 years.

She can't talk much right now, but she managed to whisper , "I love You". Life is hard, but there is so much beauty in it!

Ocracoke vacation

We just got back from a very LAZY vacation at Ocracoke Island on the outerbanks. When I get time I will do a post. I think I have enabled non-google bloggers to comment ;-).

Going Green

Well you can see the happy face on my son as he uses our new push mower in our back alley. It really works well and is lighter to push than our gas run mowers were!! It does a neat job and gives a soft touch to the look of the lawn when it is done. It also makes a really neat clicking sound as you mow.

Along with the green theme--here are some first tomatoes on our plants.

Lots of sage.

And the start of an eggplant.

The weekend is soooooon to start and it is near time for more birthday celebrations and our anniversary (31 years!!!).

Bird adventure

At one of the nursing homes (where grandpa is) there are lots of birds and cats--hhhmmmmm, makes one wonder , eh??? Anyway, my granddaughter enjoyed these big guys (I forgot to take pictures of the little ones and the cats!!)

She also got a free ride in the chair---did she ever love that!!!!

Nursing home fun?

These are precious pictures for me of my daughter and grandbaby's visit with my mother-in-law and father-in -law in their respective nursing homes.

There is such a joy in the visiting of different generations! My daughter is due on July 10 to have her son born!! These pictures really don't show it! All of this shows me how precious families and the gift of life and inter-generational relationships are. These are truly gifts from God. Also being able to help each other even in small ways really is a blessed experience.
